New Music Obsessions: Florence, Kate & the Pipettes

I listen to a lot of music throughout the day (in the car, when I'm getting ready, when I'm on the computer, while I'm sewing, before I go to bed...), but I rarely blog about it because I get a little ADD with it. My favorite songs change all the time and I'm constantly tinkering with my iPod playlists. Lately, I've recently discovered and become obsessed with a few artists (besides Metric, for once...although they are still very much a big part of my current playlist). I thought I'd share them with you guys because I know a lot of you are music lovers as well:

Florence + the Machine
Lungs

SO much love for this entire album, you don't even know. Okay, so I first heard her on Gossip Girl when they played "Kiss With a Fist" and I've been hooked ever since! Her music doesn't sound like anything I've heard before, and the songs are all really distinct and different from one another--it's not one of those bands where every single song sounds the same, you know? Every song is memorable in its own way.

Good for fans of... Imogen Heap and A Fine Frenzy
You may have heard her... on Gossip Girl.
Her music in 3 words: Dramatic. Haunting. Eccentric.
My Pick: "Dog Days are Over" - Catchy (but not in an obnoxious way) & it will put you in a good mood. Promise.

Kate Nash
My Best Friend is You

Miss Kate Nash's new album is just as fun as Made of Bricks, but a little more mature. Like a lot of artists out there, most of her songs are about love or being in a relationship, but her snappy, original lyrics are a refreshing take on the cliché of a topic. Plus, her songs are really cute. It's the kind of music you want to listen to when you're feeling bubbly.

Good for fans of... Lily Allen and Regina Spektor
You may have heard her... on Grey's Anatomy
Her music in 3 words: Quirky. Fun. Playful.
My Pick: "Kiss that Grrrl" - A bit of a tongue-in-cheek throwback to the 1960s.

The Pipettes
We Are the Pipettes

The Pipettes' music sounds like it came straight out of the doo-wop era, but if you listen closely to the lyrics, they're anything but demure. With songs like "One Night Stand" and "Dirty Mind", their retro take on modern ideas mixed with harmonies reminiscent of The Supremes make for a perfect combination that's clever and amusing.

Good for fans of... The Bird and the Bee, and The Ting Tings
You may have heard them... on Grey's Anatomy
Their music in 3 words: Cheeky. Breezy. Lively.
My Pick: "ABC" - You'll be singing along to the chorus before the song's over.

You may have noticed that I heard all of these on t.v. Well, I don't really listen to the radio, so television shows (Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, and the late Privileged were huge influences for me) and store playlists (Forever 21, Victoria's Secret, Bloomingdales, and American Eagle have some of the best ones) are where I discover new music--no joke. Let's try a new source: YOU!

What have you been listening to lately? I'd love some new music recommendations and am open to almost anything! :)
