Photo Diary: Two Point Oh 5th Annual Picnic 2014

Two Point Oh LA Picnic at The W Los Angeles

A couple months ago, I attended my favorite Two Point Oh event: the annual picnic! It's an open event where fashion and beauty bloggers around LA can network and hang out for a bit. It's my favorite, and I look forward to it every year because the location is always cool (it was at The W in Westwood this time!), there are always new bloggers to meet (like, 80% were new faces I had never seen before), and we even get introduced to new brands and products to try. The overall atmosphere is so chill and it's nice to just sit and talk for a while. I'm always one of the last to leave.

The cocktails and candy bar are always a fun treat, too.

Since I was one of the last to leave, I was able to snag one of the hot pink spider mums!

Stay tuned to find out what I wore to the event!

Staring at the Sun

Style: outfit featuring sleeveless skater dress with heart cutout back from Sidecca, shopping tote from Free People, oversized black round sunglasses, DV by Dolce Vita black sandals with gold metal accents

I'm enjoying the laziest of weekends (hey, it's Labor Day!) and have been watching a lot of Netflix (and baking doughnut muffins). In random news: you know how I lost my wallet in Portland? I just assumed it was lost forever, but it was turned in to the Portland police with everything in tact (even my $$) and I got it back! I mean, what are the chances? Thank you, Portlanders!

Lately, my outfits have been rather minimal because it's just been so hot outside. I still try to pick pieces with interesting details though. I got this dress last year from Sidecca and just found out that they came out with a romper version too (which I might just have to get). I wore it with oversized round sunglasses from Sunglass Warehouse, my black knotted sandals, and a tote bag that's actually just the free shopping bag they give you at Free People (it's canvas and has a really pretty paisley pattern). I used that tote bag for about a month straight because I liked it so much.

Beauty Box 5 Review: August 2014

  1. Novex - Brazilian Keratin Deep Hair Care Cream - This deep conditioning treatment is made to revive and revitalize your dry and damaged hair (a must-need for summer!). After shampooing, apply it like your regular conditioner and leave it on for 15-25 minutes. I'm impatient and left it on for 10, but it still worked really well. When I blow-dried my hair, I noticed it was smoother and looked a little straighter too.
  2. LA Fresh - Travel Lite Oil-Free Makeup Remover Wipes - I went to a wedding last weekend and these were extremely helpful when it came to taking my makeup at the end of the night. They removed my normally stubborn eyeliner and mascara, and even my lipstick! I liked the scent, and the formula is non-sticky and non-drying. It's designed for traveling and is the perfect size to bring along on short trips (and it's cheap too!). Check out my 'before' and 'after' photos below.
  3. Pur~Lisse - Pur~Protect Sunscreen SPF 30 - I'm a huge fan of Pur~Lisse products! They're a little on the pricey side, but they work really well on my combination/dry skin. This sunscreen is moisturizing without being greasy or heavy, and it absorbs fast too (perfect for applying under makeup when it's hot outside).
  4. Style Essentials - Nail Polish from "Touch of Teal" Collection - This nail polish is a very pretty iridescent hexagonal glitter. I used it as a topcoat over a pastel purple polish and the result was a subtle shimmer that added just the right amount of refined sparkle with just one coat. I can't wait to really pack on the layers next time--I feel like it'll be great for a glitter ombre. See below.
  5. Nanacoco - Lip Gloss in "Lovely" - I was a little nervous to try this lip gloss because the shade looked very bright in the container (I love saturated reds and corals, but pinks can be tricky on me), but not to worry because this added a sheer wash of pink that was surprisingly flattering and wearable. See below.

DIY Fashionista + A Peter Pan Collar Tutorial for a Thrifted Mens Shirt

Thrifted Mens Shirt with DIY Peter Pan Collar Tutorial & Outfit with High-Waisted Shorts and Oxfords

Pretty awesome news and something fun for you guys: Cut Out + Keep named me their latest DIY Fashionista (yay!) and asked me to share a fashion-based tutorial (this has actually been in the making for a while, hence my shorter hair in the photos).

I immediately knew what I wanted to write about: a recent personal project where I DIYed a Peter Pan collar onto a thrifted mens shirt! I'm a crafter at heart and am always looking for inventive ways to personalize my wardrobe. A while ago, I saw a very cute (but rather expensive) shirt and realized I could make a similar version myself.

    So I did.
And it was actually pretty easy!

The inspiration? A gorgeous menswear-inspired button-down shirt with a pointed collar by ADDA (I think it retailed for around $100). So I bought a couple of men's button-down shirts from Goodwill and a fabric remnant from JoAnn's and got to work. Here's a peek, followed by the rest of my outfit photos.
