Something Sweet | Featuring White Plum

Outfit style post featuring Everly fit and flare dress from White Plum, braided brown belt, rose gold bow ring from Kate Spade, and N.Y.L.A. platform ankle-strap heels from DSW

Happy Fall, everyone!
My favorite season is upon us (oh, but it doesn't feel like fall here yet...).

I just got this lovely Everly dress from White Plum. It has a flattering silhouette and an art deco inspired print (which is why I chose it). I styled it with brown accessories and shoes, and a burgundy colored lipstick by Rimmel (Lasting Finish Lipstick in "Bordeaux"). It'll be fun adding tights, boots, and a cute jacket to this when it does start to get chilly.

Be sure to check out White Plum's online boutique here. They have lots of gorgeous dresses, blouses, and leggings that are feminine and perfect for everyday.

Bonus: if you use the code SOMETHINGSWEET, you can get 20% off your entire purchase until 10/3! Awesome.

It's time to try some new products from Beauty Box 5--just in time for fall! I've been noticing that these boxes have a good variety of makeup and bath/body products.  For the September box, I got to try another hair conditioner (been getting a lot of those lately!), nail polish, eye brightener, eye shadow, and toe spacers.

Beauty Box 5 Review: September 2014

  1. Nicka K New York - Eyelight Crayon - Purple is probably my favorite non-neutral eye color to wear. I liked that this creamy eye shadow stick was really easy to use, and  it glides on nicely. It's pretty sheer, so I'd recommend pairing it with a dark eye liner. See below.
  2. My Beauty Spot - Nail Polish - This nail polish comes in sets of 6 (I got to try a shimmery pale gold shade) and would make a great gift. It goes on easily and smoothly, and looked great with just two coats. The pearlescent finish was very pretty. See below.
  3. Natural Style by FUBU - Deep Conditioner & Co-Wash - This deep conditioner is made without sulfates or parabens (yay!) so I was excited to try it. It made blow-drying my hair easier and smoothed it out pretty nicely. However, it did weigh my hair down a bit. It's probably best to use if your hair needs a conditioner that's extra moisturizing.
  4. Sally Hansen - Toe Spacers - Inexpensive and cute, these toe spacers are a must-have basic for your pedicure set!
  5. Chrislie Formulations - 3-in-1 Eye Bright - I've only been using this for a few days so I can't comment on its effectiveness quite yet, but I do like the gel formula. It absorbs fast and you only need to dab on a little bit under each eye. It's supposed to make you look more awake by firming the skin and reducing dark circles. I don't suffer from dark circles, but my eyes do get puffy when I haven't had enough sleep, so I'll let you know if I end up liking this or not.

Beauty Blurb: Billion Dollar Brows Best Sellers Kit Review + Eyebrow Tutorial

Billion Dollar Brows Best Sellers Kit Review
Billion Dollar Brows - Best Sellers Kit

It's refreshing to see full and natural looking eyebrows trending on the runway! Gone are the days of my 16-year-old thin and slightly over-plucked eyebrows. I'm pretty low maintenance these days (a.k.a. a little lazy with my eyebrow routine), but I do try to maintain their natural shapes by only plucking the strays. For events and special occasions, I like filling them in with a little bit of dark brown eye shadow for some added definition (they show up better in photos that way!).

Thankfully, I finally have the proper tools I need for defining my eyebrows! I was able to preview the new Best Sellers Kit by the celeb favorite brand, Billion Dollar Brows. It's perfect if you need the basics. Best of all, it's only $34.99 (a $68 value!) and will be available at Kohl's starting in October. Awesome.

Here's my before and after, followed by a step-by-step tutorial using all the products.

Billion Dollar Brows - Before and After

The Billion Dollar Brows Best Sellers Kit includes a universal brow pencil, a brow duo pencil (concealer and highlighter), a smudge brush, and brow gel. The winner in this kit is the universal brow pencil. Yes, universal! Seriously--it really did magically match my eyebrows. It's automatic (no sharpening!) with a spiral brush on the other end, and it glides on easily and smoothly. As for the concealer and highlighter, I found their formulas to be a little too thick, but they did blend easily. The smudge brush was simple to use, as was the brow gel--a little goes a long way.

Billion Dollar Brows - Best Sellers Kit

    1. Use the brush end of the universal brow pencil to prep your eyebrows and comb them into shape.
    2. I skipped the concealer but went ahead with the highlighter. Dot it right underneath your arch (it applies thickly, so do so lightly!).
    3. Smudge the highlighter with your finger and blend into your brow bone. It will add a nice "lift".
    4. Use the universal brow pencil and carefully draw quick, small strokes along your eyebrows to mimic hairs, paying attention to sparse areas. It's great for lengthening your eyebrow ends as well, if you need to elongate them or even them out. Tip: don't press too hard! They'll look more natural if you apply it lightly and work slowly. Add a little at a time, if you need to.
    5. Use the smudge brush to blend the brow pencil color with your own eyebrows.
    6. Apply a light coat of the clear brow gel to hold everything in place and you're done!

I was so happy with how my eyebrows turned out. The kit was surprisingly easy to use, even for a novice like me. I even did my mom's.

Don't forget, Billion Dollar Brows is launching at Kohl's next month, so don't forget to check them out! The Best Sellers Kit can be found here.

How do you maintain your eyebrows? I'd love to know about your routine! Also, any tips and tricks are greatly appreciated.

    Tropical Breeze

Outfit style featuring thrifted tropical floral vintage inspired crop top, blue suede leather mini skirt, platform heels, Kate Spade Saturday black half-circle bag

Here's what I wore to the Two Point Oh! annual picnic. It was an unusually dreary summer day, but I was dressed for a (LAish) tropical holiday. The blouse was a great find--I thrifted it from a local charity shop. The bright floral pattern gave me a bit of a vintage Palm Springs vibe when I saw it, and I just loved the flowy cropped silhouette. I ended up pairing it with a blue suede (genuine leather from Forever 21's clearance section!) skirt, platform ankle-strap mules from DSW, and my Kate Spade Saturday half-circle bag. The coral red matte lipcolor is a personal favorite: Stila's Stay All Day liquid lipcolor in Tesoro.

    Outfit Details:
Tropical floral cropped blouse (thrifted, Necessary Objects)
Blue suede pencil skirt (Forever 21)
Black half-circle satchel bag (Kate Spade Saturday)
Brown leather ankle-strap bow platform mules (NYLA via DSW)
    Coral cocktail ring (c/o Capwell+Co)
Brass and ivory bangle (c/o 2B by Bebe)
Coral red matte Stay All Day liquid lipcolor in "Tesoro" (Stila, c/o SkincareRX)

I'm starting to enjoy thrifting more, now that I've found a few awesome local places! There's this weird high that comes with hunting through the racks and finding a special piece (or three). Pure kismet.
